Human Stampede Runs For 26th Time

The Human Stampede was run for the 26th time as the top finishers in the 5k and 10k runs won handily.

Runners started gathering at Sherman Park at 7 a.m. on Saturday as the race was slated to begin at the corner of Highway 25 and First Avenue.

The runners went down Highway 25 and then turned around and ran back into town so the finish line and the starting line was in the same place.

Ryan Hunsley won the men's 5k with a time of 19:53, beating his closest competitor by a minute and a half. The women's winner and second overall finisher was Chelbi Brugh, who finished at 20:59.

The men's 10k winner was Brandon Hess who was eight minutes faster than the second place finisher, Matthew Cohen. Amanda Braaten won the women's 10k with a time of 45:14.

In the 5k walk, Loren Bisbee beat Tom Dupree by a hair, crossing the line .01 seconds ahead at 36.29. Vicki Smith won the women's 5k with a time of 37.50.

Seventy-nine-year-old Jack Hosfield finished fifth in the 5k walk with a time of 46.11.

Brent Hilde won the men's mile run/walk by 11 seconds beating Taylor Hanks and the women's winner Hannah Hafner, who ran a 6:41 and 6:46 respectively.

This was the first year Youth Dynamics was the sponsor/organizer for the run. Youth Dynamics area coordinator Brandy Archdale said there were over 100 participants in this year's race.

Archdale said the toughest part of the first year organization effort was meeting everyone's expectations for the race, which has been going on for 26 years now.

"We wanted to get people to realize we're here," Archdale said of Youth Dynamics. "We wanted to continue something that's been going on and it's become a tradition now."
