Therapeutic
Family Care
Therapeutic Family Care is considered a short-term
intervention rather than a permanent placement. Accordingly, YDI
treatment philosophy dictates an aggressive “around-the-clock”
approach to treatment. The extent to which each aspect of the client’s
life is therapeutically intervened is inversely proportional to
the length of time in treatment. While in TFC, every aspect of the
client’s life is considered for inclusion in the Treatment
Plan as part of his or her treatment.
Consequently, treatment in Therapeutic Family Care
is driven by the Treatment Plan that provides treatment interventions
specific to each behavioral goal and objective for the client, and
identifies who is responsible for each intervention. The Treatment
Plan is developed by the client’s Treatment Team and is regarded
as a “working document” to be used by all Treatment
Team members.
Each client in TFC is assigned a Care Manager who takes primary
responsibility for developing and updating the Individual Treatment
Plan. The Care Manager, working in concert with the Youth Case Manager,
is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Treatment Team,
and prepares team members to work with and support the Treatment
Parents and the client’s family. The Care Manager advocates
for, coordinates, and links clients and families with needed services
available within YDI and the community. They also serve as a liaison
with community service providers and schools.
Another important facet of the Care Manager role
involves the supervision of Family Support Assistants who may be
assigned to their clients. The Care Manager is also part of YDI’s
On-Call system and rotates with other professional staff to provide
24-hour on-call assistance to Treatment Parents and members of the
Treatment Team.
Programs included in Therapeutic Family Care are Therapeutic
Foster Care and Guide Home.
