When you get overwhelmed, try narrowing your focus to the three keys below.
Relationship comes first.
If your connection is strong, your child is more likely to follow your lead. When your relationship is broken—their behavior will speak volumes.
Co-regulate to calm emotions.
Children can’t calm down without support. When we are calm, their nervous system will match ours. Co-regulation is vital for both you and your child.
Work through solutions together.
Not only is problem-solving together going to get your child more willing—but it also builds the skills they need to think through a problem critically.
Don’t get stuck on the details—stick with the keys.
